Nathan Evans is a Boston based photographer specializing in producing true to life food images, high-resolution architecture, transportation, and fashionable portraits. A frequent traveler, he's always ready to leave the studio to improvise on location. He says of his recent job in the Caribbean, "Under way our sailing yacht is leaning and yawing, the subject yachts are doing the same thing, the sun is too intense, and everything is wet. I spent whole days clinging to a bowsprit but the results were fantastic and the client thought so too."
To describe his style Nathan expresses it this way, "It depends on the client, of course, but some of the calculations I make are: For portraits and populated decor I think they benefit from a psychological aspect, mostly relating to types of sex fantasy and power. The backdrops should be beautiful or at least not everyday spaces. If that's impossible, then I'll just make the background disappear. Cars, boats--any prestige consumer item--the same rules-of-thumb apply but the production tends to be much bigger and therefore more time consuming. Buildings and food are different yet, image quality especially color is first. Buildings and interiors, add camera placement as a frequent limitation, thus, raising need of special equipment. Obviously, food has got to look tasty so, the object is placed in a backdrop that's appetizing or funny or unexpected. Composition wise, I try to pare down typical reality in order to make the subject clearer. These style features are what I always bring the client. In a word, timeless."
